Kidney, Bladder, and Our Detox System

Kidney, Bladder, and Our Detox System

Posted by Wise Women Botanicals Staff on Aug 5th 2026

Your kidneys filter about 50 gallons of blood a day. Most of us only think about them when something hurts.

Back in July, Connie walked us through the liver — the organ that breaks toxins down. This Saturday she covers the other half of that job: the system that carries them out.

Your two kidneys are roughly the size of your fists, and they work every hour of every day — filtering your blood, holding your minerals in balance, helping set your blood pressure, telling your body when to make new red blood cells, and turning vitamin D into the form you can actually use. Your bladder finishes the job.

And when they start to struggle, they rarely announce it. Puffy ankles. Up two or three times a night. Tiredness you can't explain. A back ache low down that you blame on the mattress. These are quiet signals, and they're easy to live with for years without ever connecting them.

Connie will also clear up the word everyone throws around: detox. Your body already has a detox system — liver, kidneys, bowels, skin and lymph, all working together. Support one and ignore the rest and you get nowhere. She'll show you how the pieces connect.

This week we're covering

  • What your kidneys actually do all day — filtration, minerals, blood pressure, and the hormones most people never hear about
  • The quiet early signs of kidney strain — swelling, night-time trips, unexplained fatigue — and why they're so easy to miss
  • Bladder health: recurring UTIs, urgency and frequency, and why women deal with them far more often than men
  • Kidney stones — what they're made of, who tends to get them, and the everyday habits that make them less likely
  • How much water you really need — and why plain water alone isn't the whole answer without minerals
  • Herbs with a long history of use here — dandelion leaf, nettle, cornsilk, marshmallow root, uva ursi, horsetail and more
  • Your five detox pathways, how they depend on each other, and what an honest "cleanse" does and doesn't do

Missed the liver session in July? No problem. Connie starts each workshop from the ground up, so nothing this Saturday depends on having been there. Bring your questions.
