Wise Women Botanicals is a small herb and wellness shop in Moberly, Missouri. This page explains what we learn about you when you use this website, why, and who helps us handle it. We do not sell your information to anyone.
When you shop with us
Our store runs on BigCommerce. When you place an order or create an account, we collect what is needed to fill the order: your name, email, shipping and billing address, phone number if you give one, and what you bought. When you pay at checkout, Square handles your card; we never see your full card number.
If you leave items in your cart, the store may send you a reminder email about them.
Our emails
We send our newsletter and workshop invitations through MailerLite. You are on that list if you signed up on this site, or if you created an account and placed an order with us. MailerLite also receives your order history, which we use to send the occasional note when a product you buy may be running low. Every newsletter and marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect right away.
Cookies and analytics
The store uses cookies to keep your cart and your login working. We also use Google Analytics to see which pages people visit and how they found us, so we can improve the site; Google may collect information about your visits across other websites that use it. Videos embedded from YouTube may let Google set its own cookies. Where our cookie banner appears, you can choose which kinds of cookies to allow. Our site does not change how it works when your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal.
Ask Connie, our chat assistant
Ask Connie is an automated assistant that answers questions from Connie's own teaching and our product catalog. It is here to inform, not to give medical advice, and it is not for emergencies. If you have an emergency, call 911.
- No login, no tracking cookie. The chat keeps a random conversation number in your browser tab while it is open. It usually ends when you close the tab, and next time you start fresh. We do not try to work out who you are.
- What we save. Each question you type and the answer it gave, which of our product and reference pages it drew on, any suggested answers you tap, any product or store link you click from the chat, any feedback you leave, which page you opened the chat from, whether you were on a phone or a computer, and technical details such as how long the reply took. Separately, we count how often each chat link on the site is shown, with the page and the kind of device. We read these, including in weekly summaries that quote parts of conversations, to make the answers and our product pages better.
- How long. We keep conversations for as long as they help us improve the answers. If you would like yours deleted, write to us (see the end of this page).
- Your IP address is used to stop any one connection from flooding the chat. We do not save it with your conversation. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, briefly keeps technical request logs, which can include your IP address.
- Asking Connie directly. If you use the form to send your question to Connie, we keep the name, email, optional phone number and question you enter, and email them to Connie with a copy of your chat so she has the full picture. A member of our team receives a copy too. Connie writes back to you herself.
Please do not type payment details, or anything you would not want a person at our shop to read, into the chat.
Facebook Messenger
We are adding the same assistant to messages sent to our Facebook Page. Once it is on, it will say in its first reply that it is Connie's AI assistant. To keep the conversation making sense, we store the anonymous ID Facebook gives us for your chat with our Page and your last few messages, and we delete them after 24 hours with no new messages. We do not collect your name or profile from Facebook. Send "stop" at any time to end the automated replies. Messenger itself is run by Meta, and Meta's privacy policy covers what Meta does with your messages.
Who helps us
We share only what each service needs to do its job:
- BigCommerce runs the store and checkout.
- Square processes card payments.
- MailerLite sends our newsletter and reminders.
- Google Analytics measures site visits.
- Cloudflare hosts the chat service.
- Supabase stores chat conversations and messages to Connie.
- Anthropic provides the AI model that writes the chat's replies, and OpenAI provides the search that finds the right pages to answer from. Both see the text of the conversation in order to respond. Under their business terms, neither uses it to train their AI models by default.
- Mailgun delivers messages sent to Connie from the chat.
- GitHub stores our weekly internal chat summaries, which quote parts of conversations.
Children
This site and the chat are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your choices and deleting your data
You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time, decline analytics cookies where the banner offers it, and use the chat without giving us your name. To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, including chat conversations and Messenger messages, write to wisewomenbotanicals@yahoo.com. For a chat, tell us roughly when you chatted and what you asked, since the chat does not know your name. We will delete it from our records and our weekly summaries.
