Gluteal Tendinopathy & Neuropathy — Hip Pain, Nerve Pain and Better Nights
Posted by Wise Women Botanicals Staff on Oct 25th 2026
When the pain shows up at night
Maybe it's the outside of your hip. It aches when you lie on that side, when you climb stairs, or when you stand up after sitting a while. You may have been told it's bursitis, or even sciatica. Or maybe it's your feet: numbness, tingling, burning, or pins and needles that get worse once you're in bed. Those are two different problems, but they have something in common. They're both worse at night, and they both wear you down. This Saturday Connie is spending the morning on both.
Gluteal tendinopathy: the hip pain that often gets the wrong name. The tendons on the outside of the hip carry a lot of load, and they can become irritated and painful. It's most common in women over 40, especially around and after menopause. For years it was usually called hip bursitis. Now the tendons are understood to be the main problem, and that changes what helps. Connie will cover the everyday habits that press on those tendons, like crossing your legs, standing with your weight on one hip, and sleeping on the sore side without a pillow between your knees. She'll also explain why some common stretches can make it worse.
Neuropathy: when the nerves send the wrong signals. Peripheral neuropathy usually starts in the feet and hands. Diabetes is the cause people know best, but it's far from the only one. Low B12 is common as we age and in people taking metformin or acid reducers. Alcohol, thyroid problems and some medications can play a part too. Connie will talk about why finding the cause comes first, what to ask your doctor to check, and why a daily look at your feet matters more than most people realize.
Then supporting the body. Connie will cover the nutrients and traditional plants people ask her about most, along with the inflammation connection both conditions share and the movement, sleep and diet habits that help.
And when to see the doctor. Numbness or weakness that comes on suddenly or spreads quickly needs prompt medical attention. So does a sore on your foot that won't heal, hip pain after a fall, or pain with fever. Don't stop or change any medication without talking to your doctor first. Nothing on Saturday replaces your doctor, and Connie will say so first.
