Essential Oils for Fibroids: What They Are, and a Gentle Ritual for Tender Days

Essential Oils for Fibroids: What They Are, and a Gentle Ritual for Tender Days

Posted by Connie Jacoby, Naturopath Health Consultant on Sep 7th 2026

Friends, a lot of the women who sit down with me have been told they have fibroids, and a lot of them left the doctor's office without really understanding what that means. So let's have the conversation at the kitchen table, in plain words.

What a fibroid is

A fibroid is a firm knot of muscle that grows in the wall of the womb. They are benign, which is the doctor's word for "not the frightening kind," and they are enormously common; by fifty, most women have at least one and never know it. Some are the size of a pea, some the size of a grapefruit. They tend to grow while you are cycling and quiet down after menopause.

Where they sit decides what you feel. Many cause nothing at all. Others bring long, heavy periods, a full or pressing feeling low in the belly, an aching back, needing the bathroom more often, or discomfort with intimacy.

This is a walk you take with your doctor

A lot of people ask me about plant support for fibroids, and I say the same thing every time: that is a walk you take with your doctor, and I am here for the plant-based side. Your doctor has a whole range of options, from watching and waiting to medicines to procedures, and the right one depends on your age, your plans, and your symptoms. Go without waiting if you are soaking through a pad or tampon every hour, passing large clots, feeling dizzy or short of breath (heavy bleeding drains your iron), if the pain is sharp and sudden, or if you are trying to conceive and it is not happening.

The everyday things that ease the heavy days

  • Track your cycle, on paper or on your phone, so you and your doctor are working from facts.
  • Eat for your iron on the heavy days: dark greens, beans, lentils, a little red meat if you eat it, and have your doctor check your levels.
  • Warmth low on the belly. A hot water bottle is one of the oldest comforts there is, and it still works.
  • Walk. Movement eases the pressure and the mood both.
  • Crowd your plate with vegetables and ease the sugar out; the kitchen-table rules from my earlier post apply here too.

What I reach for

For the tender days, I keep Women's Balance Essential Oil Blend by the bed: Helichrysum and Frankincense, two of the most treasured oils in all of traditional practice, in a blend made especially for women. A few drops in a spoonful of carrier oil, warmed between the hands, and a slow, unhurried massage low on the belly in the evening. Whenever I say one, less is more; one drop to start, always. It supports healthy circulation as part of that gentle abdominal massage, and it turns a hard day into a few quiet minutes that belong only to you.

That ritual does not change a fibroid; your doctor's plan does. It changes how you get through the day, and that counts for a great deal. Everyone is different, friend. Be your own assessor, and keep your doctor close.
