CBD vs CBG — What's the Difference, What's on the Label, and Where to Start

CBD, CBG, or both? How to choose.
It's the question we hear more than any other at the counter, so this Saturday Connie is giving it the whole morning. CBD, CBG, or a blend of the two — and once you've picked, which strength, which form, and whether it's the right time for you at all.
Start with what each one is. CBD and CBG both come from the hemp plant, and neither one gets you high. CBD is the one most people have heard of. CBG is its lesser-known cousin — the plant makes far less of it, which is part of why it's newer to the shelf. Connie will explain how the two differ, why some people settle on one on its own, and why others prefer the two together as part of their daily routine.
Then choose a strength, which means reading the label. The big number on the front is the whole bottle, not what's in each dropper — and a dropperful is not a drop. Two bottles that both say 1,000 mg can give you quite different amounts per serving. Broad-spectrum, full-spectrum and isolate mean three different things too, and the difference comes down to what else is in the bottle, THC included.
Then choose a form. A tincture, a capsule and a cream aren't interchangeable. They're different routes into the body, and each makes sense in different situations. Whichever you choose, the rule is the same: start low and go slow. Connie will explain what that looks like in practice.
And sometimes the right choice is to wait. CBD and CBG can interact with other medications, including blood thinners and sedatives, so if you take anything on a prescription, the conversation to have is with your doctor or pharmacist before you start. If you're facing a drug test, what "THC-free" on a label does and doesn't tell you is one of the questions Connie will take head-on. Pregnancy and children each get their own careful answer. Nothing on Saturday replaces your doctor, and Connie will say so first.
Already have a bottle? Bring it. Whatever you have at home — from us or from anywhere else — bring it along and Connie will help you read your own label. Joining online? Keep it next to you. And if you'd like to see what we carry, our CBD-only and CBD/CBG tinctures, all THC-free in an MCT oil base, will be on hand.
This week we're covering
- CBD and CBG — what each one is, and how they differ

- Choosing a strength: total milligrams in the bottle vs. milligrams per dropper
- Broad-spectrum, full-spectrum and isolate — what each means, and where THC comes in
- Choosing a form: tincture, capsule or topical, and when each makes sense
- Drops vs. dropperfuls, and what "start low, go slow" means in practice
- "THC-free" and drug testing — what the label can and can't tell you
- When to wait: other medications (including blood thinners and sedatives), pregnancy, and children — and why your doctor or pharmacist comes first
- Bring your bottle — Connie will help you read your own label
New to our workshops? You're very welcome. Connie starts each one from the ground up, so nothing this Saturday assumes you've been before — or that you've ever tried CBD. Curious but unsure? This one's for you too. Bring your bottle and your questions.
